Vic's birthday celebration - French fine dining at Lafite

2+ weeks to my EDD, and it's Victor's birthday. I've planned earlier to treat him French fine dinning in Natalie Gourmet, one of the best French restaurant in KL recommended by a friend. However, just few days before his birthday, I found out that it closed on Monday, the day I took leave to celebrate Vic's birthday, just the two of us. On his actual birthday, we have already celebrated with our little girl and his family.

Having no choice, I have to quickly find another restaurant online, and finally we have chosen Lafite, Shangri-La Hotel KL as our lunch destination.

~ Happy Birthday darling ~
Vic, me and my big tummy

The ambiance was quiet and relaxing. We were the only guest when we arrived.

They offered 2 course meal+dessert or 3 course meal+dessert. Since it's my first French fine dining experience, we have chosen the 3 course meal.

Selecting our food...

The bread ~ nice

Starter before the selected first course ~ beef salad. The waiter introduced the ingredients every time he presented us the food, but I can't really remember all of them now =P

This medium cooked beef salad was delicious with the sour vege on top.

The food portion were all very small.

This is Victor's selections:
First Course: Lentil Soup

Second Course: Wood smoke barlie Risotto served with truffle, garlic and Parmesan

Third Course: Crispy Skin Duck served with
pumpkin, green lentil and port wine

Victor's comments:
Lentil soup, tasted like Indian dish because of the spices used.
The Risotto was really nice and creamy with the Parmesan cheese. Love it.
Roasted Duck, very flavorful but the meat was a bit dry. Presentation was great and colourful.

This is my selections:
First course: Lobster Orzo served with Parmesan

Second course: 7 spices Prawn and Crab Salad
served with caviar, grapefruit and avocado

Third course: Fennel and Coriander Crusted Black Cod
served with lemon, smoke eel and risotto

My comments:
Lobster Orzo, first time trying Orzo, a type of pasta shaped like a large grain of rice. Really nice creamy flavor with the Parmesan cheese. However, it has similar taste as the Risotto Victor ordered. and somehow I can't find any Lobster there, maybe it's in the sauce itself.

Prawn and crab salad, looked small but a special dish. A little spicy, served well with avocado's sweetness and caviar's saltiness, but the grape fruit tasted a bit bitter. Victor loves this dish too.

Black cod, to me it's the best dish of the day, and the best fish I have ever tasted in my life. The fish was just cooked to absolutely perfection, it was smooth and can melt in my month. Thumbs up!! Anyway, the Risotto was a bit dry.

After the main course, we were served with complimentary chocolate coated cherry sorbet, and it was absolutely yummy !!!

Lastly, our desserts.

Victor's selection: Pineapple Cobbler served with
coconut sorbet, oatmeal and white chocolate

My selection: Chocolate S'mores served with
vanilla ice cream, marshmallow and graham cracker.

By the way, we do share most of our food.

The Pineapple Cobbler is definitely my favorite and it's the 2nd best dish of the day to me, after the black cod. This dessert was light and yummy with moderate sweetness to my liking. Loved the refreshing coconut sorbet and the crunchiness of the oatmeal which served well with the pineapple's sweetness.

On the other hand, the Chocolate S'more and vanilla ice cream is a bit too rich to me after a full 3 course meal, but it's presentation is definitely attractive.

I had a great lunch in this restaurant , and I hope Vic enjoyed it too :)

After the satisfying lunch, we went to Pavilion for a movie  ~
The Twilight Saga - Breaking Dawn part 2.

To me, it was a nicely shot movie and a good ending of the series, based on the story book. The scenes and the characters were all very beautiful. Vic's comment was that it's a romantic fantasy film for 18-20 years old girls... haha.

Happy birthday baabee. I hope you enjoyed a day out with me. You have been a great husband to me and the bestest father to our little girl. We will have a new family member soon and I know it's not going to be easy. I hope we can all go through this together. Thanks for your love and support all these years. Muaks.
